Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, California, and New Jersey have already passed laws or rules, each with its own operative test and staggered effective dates, and more states are drafting their own. New York City sits in the corpus too — not a state, but a jurisdiction whose population rivals many of them, and whose Local Law 144 (the AEDT bias-audit law) belongs squarely in this picture. There is no single rulebook, just a growing patchwork. The hard part is knowing which pieces touch your situation.
